Chatham Blanketeer Vol. 6 JANUARY 16, 1940 No. 6 CLUBS SPONSOR HOLIDAY PARTY Both Winston and Elkin Groups Enjoy Gay Doings in Parties Shortly Before Christmas The Lucy Hanes Chatham club of Winston-Salem held their Christmas party at the club house on Tuesday evening, December 19. The living room was attrac tively decorated with the Christ mas colors, and a large Christmas tree was in the center of the room. Refreshments were served from a prettily appointed table with a centerpiece of holly and mistletoe. At each end of the table there were two beautiful pots of poinsettias. Games and contests were enjoyed throughout the evening. At the close of the party gifts were distributed. Each club member received a bottle of perfume from Mrs. Thurmond Chatham. Miss Erline Mayber ry and Mrs. Esther Norman re ceived prizes for being present every time during the past club year. Mrs. Thurmond Chatham was present as a special guest. The Lucy Hanes Chatham clubs of Elkin enjoyed a Christmas dinner at the Hotel Elkin, Thurs day evening, December 21. The dinner was served from a table which had been beautifully dec orated in red, silver and white. Place cards were hand-painted by Mrs. Jack Caudill. In the corner of the dining room was a huge Christmas tree. Special guests included Mr. and Mrs. Thurmond Chatham, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Neaves, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Poindexter, Mr. and (Continued on Page Eight) TEAM MEMBERS GO TO DURHAM Among those making the trip to Durham Saturday, January 6, to see the Duke-Princeton game were the following: Mildred and Babe Poole, Jennie and Jannie Sherrill, Katherine Whitener, Ann Lineback, Louise McGhee, Maurice Gordan, Nell Snoddy, Dot Samuels, Helen Doub, Pete Amburn, Claudia Austin, Jimmy Merrell, E. ARE TO OPEN CAGE SEASON Girls’ and Boys’ Basketball Teams to Meet Enka Girls and Boys on Elkin Court Beginning January 13, the girls and boys basketball teams will open the basketball .season in Elkin when they meet the strong Enka girls and boys team on the Elkin court. The following is a completed schedule now on hand. However several other teams are being contacted and these dates will be announced later. Saturday, January 13 — Enka boys and girls at Elkin. Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20—Drayton boys and girls at Elkin. Wednesday, January 24—Stan- iy boys and girls at Elkin. Saturday, January 27 — Enka boys and girls at Enka. Saturday, February 3 — Hanes Hosiery boys and girls at Win ston-Salem. Monday, February 12 — Daven port, Iowa, girls at Elkin. Saturday, February 17 — Hanes Hosiery boys and girls at Elkin. A small admission is being charged for all these games. Sup port your teams and come out to .see the games. BURCHAM NAMED HEAD OF CLUB Amel Eller Is Elected President of T. C. U. Group; Standing Committees Appointed With the election of Russell Burcham as president for the coming year the T. C. U. club held its final meeting of 1939 at the clubhouse on the night of December 18. Reports were made and all business for the past year was brought to a close. Amel Eller was elected vice- president and Hugh Salmons suc ceeded himself in the office of secretary and treasurer. Henry Woodruff was elected assistant secretary and treasurer, and Wal ter Worth was elected parliamen tarian. Featured solely by busi ness of importance to the mem bers, the club met on New Year’s evening with Russell Burcham presiding. For the beginning of the year’s work several standing committees were appointed by the president. The chairmen of the committees (Continued on Page Eight)
